Constructed in 1967, Lindbergh Elementary School serves students in grades K-5. We have some multi-age groupings, organized according to educational needs. The school has a strong reading and language arts program. We take great pride in our overall basic skills program. The mission of Lindbergh Elementary School, the center of a multicultural neighborhood, is to ensure academic success for each student, enabling children to become lifelong learners and productive members of society. Our goal is to achieve this through collaborative efforts with staff, families and community. |

Lindbergh is located on the far north side of Madison. Our student population is primarily from a walk-in neighborhood, which includes the very active Kennedy Heights apartment complex. The only students who regularly ride the bus are some special education children and ESL children from the Northport/Packers Avenue intersection area.
The SAGE (Student Achievement Guarantee in Education) grant from the State will keep kindergarten through third grade classes at 15 or fewer students during the entire day. Our total enrollment is approximately 240 students.
Lindbergh offers a daily breakfast program as well as prepacked hot lunches. Before and after school day care is provided on-site.

Lindbergh uses computers in each classroom, the LMC, and during primary and intermediate REACH instruction. Students get a chance to work with computers everyday and have the chance to access the Internet as well.
The goal of Talented and Gifted (TAG) programming is to make certain K-12 students consistently have learning opportunities that are challenging, systematic and continuous based on learning profile, readiness and student interest.
Student learning experiences include a broad range of opportunities that pushes a student to their next level of challenge and allows them to develop their talents. TAG programming may occur in the classroom, or in other settings. TAG programming is determined by ongoing evaluation and assessment of individual student needs. Each school has TAG resource support for ongoing consultation.
Teachers in art, music, library, physical education, and computers provide regular instruction. Lindbergh also has Reading Recovery classes, Rock N' Read, and Title I programs designed to help students reach their reading potential quickly.
English as a Second Language, Special Education, and strings are offered. In addition, support staff such as the school psychologist, social worker, nurse and speech and language clinician provide services to support children. All-day kindergarten is offered.

Lindbergh maintains a safety patrol of fifth graders who help other students cross streets safely at designated areas. Patrol members put in many hours and students are encouraged to respect the patrol's decisions.
Specialists provide instruction in self-control, social skills, violence prevention, problem solving, conflict resolution and anger management. The school psychologist also presents lessons in various classrooms about these topics.
Lindbergh sends out a monthly newsletter to parents and the community about points of interest going on in each classroom and in the community. Everyone is encouraged to submit ideas and information about community activities. Students in grades K-5 can participate in our Accelerated Reader Program, a reading motivation program using computers, during the school day and independently.
Check out the Internet and Madison Metropolitan School District's Home Page (www.madison.k12.wi.us) for Lindbergh's Home Page. It features information about the school and samples of students' work.

It is out goal to keep parents informed and involved in their child's education to the greatest extent possible. We do this through conferences, grade level reporting, on-going communication, and inviting families to participate in our many school-wide events. We are also working on a 3-year Comprehensive School Reform grant to build Learning Communities and family/community partnerships to enhance student learning.
Volunteers and the RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program) work with students and teachers weekly. We also have a VISTA coordinator, and have close connections with the Kennedy Heights Community Center.
For answers to any questions, to schedule a school tour or to request materials such as curriculum standards, handbooks, lunch menus, newsletters, etc., call the Lindbergh principal at 204-6502 or fax us at 204-0459.
We encourage you to talk with parents of our students to learn more about our school. Please see the Principal/Parent Contact information on this web site for current names and phone numbers.
