Just for Students... About West High School

At Home In Madison Why should adults get all the information?!
You're moving too and you are the one who will be in school all day.
So, just for you, here are some fun reasons why you will think our school is the greatest!

There's A Lot To Get Involved In!

You name it! Almost any sport you can think of. And clubs, clubs and more clubs. How about "Ultimate Frisbee," Chess Club, Shoulders to Shoulders, Tapestry, ACLU - the list goes on and on. Don't let the good life pass you by. Get involved at West High School.

The Eating Is Good!

Cafeteria food, you say? What's not to like? You've got variety - a full hot lunch, a la carte, snack bar! Not enough? Well then how about Mike's subs, Pizza Days, the Regent Meal Deal. Or, you can always go off campus as long as you get back for your next class. There are several food outlets within easy walking distance, and if you have wheels or a friend with wheels there's all the usual fast food outlets we all know and love.

Student Government!

You too can have a voice in how things are done around West. Plan dances, participate in service and volunteer opportunities, help keep Regent Pride alive and well during Spirit Week and at other times as well. Anyone can become a student council member, even if you are not elected from your class council. All it takes is a petition with the signatures of 20 fellow students and you're on board.

Help Your Community!

West students are famous for their reputation of service to the community. Get involved in "Roof Over Our Heads," the annual entertainment extravaganza which benefits the homeless, or perhaps the "Souper Bowl" which benefits Habitat for Humanity. Then there are the food drives, "Coats for Kids" and "Toys for Tots" campaigns supported by the class councils each year. Our National Honor Society is a service organization. Membership reflects hours of community service.

How About A Party?

Get your tickets for Homecoming (October), Mid-Winter (February), T.W.I.R.P. (March) and Prom (May). By the way, do you know what T.W.I.R.P. stands for? Well, it stands for "The Woman Is Required To Pay," an old West tradition.

Speaking Of Traditions . . .

West is rich in all sorts of traditions going back as much as six decades. Ask how the "Moose Head Shed" got its name. Can you find out how the Christopherson

Auditorium and the Stevens Gymnasium got their names? How about the beautiful murals outside the auditorium and just off the cafeteria? West is a school that has been around for a long time and has had many, many illustrious graduates. West alumni are loyal to their alma mater and return often to visit. When you come to West, you too will become a "Regent."

The Colucci Gallery

How many high schools do you know that have their very own art gallery right in the school? Be sure to visit the Colucci Gallery, located near the Ash Street entrance, often. The shows change several times a year and feature the work of West students and faculty as well as visiting exhibits. There is always something exciting going on in the Colucci Gallery.

Fine Arts Week

Imagine an entire week with art, music, drama, dance and creative writing going on all day every day, even before and after school - recitals and concerts, poetry readings, ceramics and other artistic demonstrations! That's West High School's unique and precious Fine Arts Week. This incredible event occurs the first week in May each year. You'll be amazed! Don't miss it!

Cool Teachers

Yes, you heard right - cool teachers. The West faculty is one of the best you'll find anywhere in the country. West is a community devoted to learning, and you'll fit right in. Get to know your teachers and let them get to know you. We all work together to make West the very special place that it is.

Be A Winner!

West is dedicated to the premise that everyone can achieve success. Whatever your special interests and special gifts, West has something for you. Come join us for the experience of your life!

Remember, you're "At Home At West High School!"
