Why should adults get all the information?!
You're moving too and you are the one who will be in school all day.
So, just for you, here are some fun reasons why you will think our school is the greatest!
Cherokee Pride
We're proud of our school! Everybody fits in somewhere and everybody does great things if they try. Sure we work hard, but that's only part of it. We learn some cool things and have a lot of fun too.
Hands On
Whether it is going to the school forest, climbing at the Ropes Course, shooting balloon rockets, racing a model dragster, or spending the day on a career shadow, the days are filled with hands-on activities where you get to experience things rather than just hear about them.
After School Clubs
If you and ten other kids want to start a club and you can talk an adult into advising, you have a club at Cherokee. Some clubs include basketball, soccer, horseback riding, newspaper, yearbook, AV, catering, climbing, skiing, drama, and many others.
Peer Mediators
At Cherokee students help solve student problems. After all, who knows more about teenage problems than teenagers? You can be a peer mediator as long as you can listen and want to help others.
Homework Center
After school, you can go to the Homework Center for help with, you guessed it, homework. There are computers available and tutors who can help you if you get stuck. Don't wait until late at night when you don't remember and your parents don't have a clue.
Student Council
Get involved in running our school. Take part in community service projects. Be a Cherokee Ambassador. Embarrass the staff during Spirit Week. You can get involved in all of these activities through Student Council.
Late Bus
Want to stay after school for Homework Center, basketball, or other cool clubs? Every night there are two late buses: one that leaves at 3:30, and one that leaves at 5:00. You won't have to try and talk your older brother into picking you up after school anymore.
Three Choices
You have three different choices for lunch everyday. Bring your own lunch, purchase the main daily entree, or purchase a la carte. Pizza Hut pizza, tacos, and build your own subs are special day options. You can get french fries or french bread pizza any day of the week.
Unified Arts
Two periods of the day are spent in Unified Arts classes. You get your choice of band, chorus, general music and orchestra. All students take family and wellness, computers, and art. This is where you really get to make noise, create a masterpiece, build bridges, surf the Net, cook a meal, climb a pseudo mountain, win a softball game, and try all the other things you've always wanted to try.
Talented and Gifted (TAG) Program
The Talented and Gifted programs have all sorts of different things for all different interests -- from Science Olympiad to Geography Bee, from Fine Arts Week to murals and the school drama production, from the African American History Challenge to geometry class. All you need is the desire to use the talents you have.
Homebase
Every morning, for 12 minutes, all students report to a homebase. This is the one teacher and group of students you will get to know really well. There is always some sort of activity or challenge going on. Also, this is when you get to hear announcements (blah, blah, blah).
Dances
Each quarter, there is a dance. Come and dance to the DJ, eat pizza, shoot hoops, or play foosball. Sure, every now and then, a teacher tries to dance. Just who do they think they are kidding? There is even a bus that will pick you up and drop you off.
Super Staff
Cherokee has great teachers. They really try and make things fun. Our principal is alright too, but look out because she reads every report card. The teachers know everybody really well. Sometimes this isn't so great if they run into your parents at a community event. Most of the time it's OK because they really want to help you out.
What else do you need to know? Stop in and hang out for awhile if you really want to see what Cherokee is all about. There is a group of us students that will show you around. Let your parents talk with the principal, and we will show you the good stuff.
Remember, you're "At Home At Cherokee Middle School!"
