Metro fixed Routes 3, 4, 7, 37 and 38 serve O'Keeffe Middle School from stops along Spaight Street and Rogers Street. Supplemental Service Route 91 provides additional connections before and after school from O'Keeffe Middle School attendance areas.
Students are in classes from 7:45 a.m. to 2:40 p.m. daily.
Students have the option of an a la carte lunch or they can bring their own lunch. The Madison newspapers list weekly lunch menus.
Over 75% of O'Keeffe eighth graders were in the proficient or advanced categories in the reading and math sections of the standardized tests taken recently by Wisconsin students. In 2004 and 2005, O'Keeffe was recognized as a "Wisconsin Promise School" for academic success by the Wisconisn Department of Public Instruction.
One-third of O'Keeffe eighth graders are enrolled in algebra classes. All of our students take foreign language in 7th and 8th grades.
An exemplary computer/technology program exists at O'Keeffe Middle School which integrates technology in all curricular areas.
The goal of Talented and Gifted (TAG) programming is to make certain K-12 students consistently have learning opportunities that are challenging, systematic and continuous based on learning profile, readiness and student interest.
Student learning experiences include a broad range of opportunities that pushes a student to their next level of challenge and allows them to develop their talents. TAG programming may occur in the classroom, or in other settings. TAG programming is determined by ongoing evaluation and assessment of individual student needs. Each school has TAG resource support for ongoing consultation.
The Unified Arts program is comprehensively planned with physical education, art, foreign language (Spanish) and music (choir, band, orchestra, and general music) required or elected, depending upon the grade level of the student.
A full range of special education options/services are available.
Our school staff and students are committed to maintaining a safe, orderly, and harassment-free school environment.
Conflict resolution skills are taught to students who practice these skills with adult assistance as needed. The progressive discipline system used in the school provides consequences, but allows students the chance to make amends.
We have extensive after school clubs and activities (30-40) that exist throughout the school year. Our very active Student Council plans school dances, runs the school store, and many school/community activities.
Our Parent-Teacher Group meets monthly and works closely with staff to provide enhanced learning/cultural opportunities for students.
Our school works closely with the neighborhood Atwood Community Center in providing wholesome activities for our students after school and on weekends.
Many of our teachers participate in the UW-Madison's student teacher placement program and take university classes.
We look forward to meeting you and your child. Recent extensive renovation of our school yielded a remodeled cafeteria, a new gymnasium floor and state-of-the-art science labs.
We encourage you to talk with parents of our students to learn more about our school. Please see the Principal/Parent information on this web site for current names and phone numbers.
