You're...At Home At
|
Why should adults get all the information?!
You're moving too and you are the one who will be in school all day.
So, just for you, here are some fun reasons why you will think our school
is the greatest!
David Letterman made "Top Ten" lists famous. So, this is just for you.
Some of the main munchies are pizza, sub sandwiches, burritos, bagels, french fries, cookie dough (with M&M's in it!), and lots of different kinds of ice cream. Don't worry, there is plenty of food that is good for you like salads, fruits and veggies too.
There's no end to what's happening: basketball, flag
football, volleyball, floor hockey, ultimate frisbee, jazz band, forensics,
cultural cooking, mural painting, computers, comic book trading, model
building, environmental club (prairie planting) . . . this list includes
over 40 options. If you have another idea, we will make it a club for
others to join. Also, check out the YMCA, Lancer League Basketball, Sharks
Football/Track and Kennedy Little League for other recreational
activities.
This is a great way to get involved. Anyone interested can be part of the student council. You don't have to be voted in. This is a great way for someone new to Whitehorse to meet great people, make friends and have a blast planning and participating in lots of fun like special theme days, lock-ins, Brewers games, meetings with students from other schools, conducting school tours, breakfast fund raisers, planning dances and this is only part of what you can do!
Along with over 200 of your friends from Whitehorse, join students from all over the state in experiencing the sites, foods, music, and excitement of cultures from around the world. Get plenty of rest the night before this trip because you will return to school late!
Our dances are a blast. Disc jockeys come and play the hottest tunes from rap to hip-hop to rock-n-roll oldies. Candy, food and soda keep everyone fired up!
Over 150 students, 30 teachers and countless parent volunteers help put on our show. This annual event has become one of our yearly highlights. Performances have included a father/son juggling act, brother and sister karate act choreographed to rock music, singing, dancing, comedy, and the 20 piece Whitehorse rock band led by our guitar playing principal gets all of the audience dancing. You can perform if like or get involved in set construction. Maybe you would like to learn more about complex sound and video production. The Variety Show gets everyone involved.
Let's face it . . . a big part of school is time to see your friends. Students are kept pretty busy with school work but they do have five minute breaks between classes, thirty minutes for lunch and from 2:45-3:30 there are lots of activities and opportunities to hang out with your friends. Whitehorse is a friendly place where you stay close to old friends and can always meet new people.
The teachers at Whitehorse are all very different. One thing they have in common is they all try to make the seven hours you are in school fun. They put in lots of extra time taking students camping, rock climbing, bowling, hiking, biking, and they try to make the learning in the classroom fun. Computers and group projects keep things from getting boring.
This is a program to recognize students who act responsibly and appropriately and are on time to class. All students start with 1000 point for the year. If you are late for class or have behavior problems you lose points. The great thing about the Winner's Circle is you can always earn points back. If you stay above 750 you get to participate in really cool activities like bowling, roller skating, rock climbing, biking and movies. If you stay at 1000 you receive a Winner's Circle card which you can use at East Towne to get great discounts at over 30 stores. East Towne also donates $1,500 to the program and students receive gift certificates for their achievements at various times during the year. About 95% of the students are part of the Winner's Circle and nearly 200 never lose a single point all year.
Your job in school is to learn. Learning happens best when you are having fun doing it. Lots of attention is given to making Whitehorse a place to have fun and learn. We are a "Harassment Free" school and a place where all people are respected and appreciated. Whitehorse welcomes ALL people and asks them to join us in our celebration of learning, fun, and our pursuit of excellence.
Sure the principal is going to write this good stuff, but what do the students really think?! That's why this was written by the principal and one of our students. The information was written specifically for students and that is why it was written by a student. Feel free to call us at 246-4468 if you want more information about Whitehorse.
Remember, you're "At Home At Whitehorse Middle School!"
