Why should adults get all the information?!
You're moving too and you are the one who will be in school all day.
So, just for you, here are some fun reasons why you will think our school is the greatest!
The Sherman Student Congress
You can represent your homeroom at lunch and after school meetings. The Sherman Student Congress is a replica of the student congress at East High School. Student officers and a staff advisor help guide the school on important decisions like evening dances, theme parties, community service projects, annual events, and problem solving activities with the adult leaders of the north side.
After School Clubs
Each season the staff coordinator of these clubs advertises an assortment of possibilities to fill your after school time. These clubs are open to all students and transportation is provided by the scheduled late Madison Metro bus. The clubs vary each school year according to the interests of the students and the staff. Clubs include various sports, foreign language, chess and cooking to name just a few.
Math Meets
Several competitive events are held throughout the school year with all of the other Madison middle schools participating.
Evening Basketball Program
This late afternoon and evening program for boys and girls keeps the Sherman gym active 304 times a year. Scheduled games take place during the October - March season at Sherman and at the home gyms of other programs in Madison, the suburbs and elsewhere. A special event hosted by Sherman is the Winter Tournament that has drawn teams from southern Wisconsin, northern Illinois and the Chicago area.
The Morning Snack Program
Students at Sherman solve problems. This program was started by students and the Consumer Education staff to address the concern that many of their peers did not eat breakfast. The students who manage the program help plan the menu, distribute the snack and assist in budget preparation.
The Annual Spring Play
Each spring for the past two years, Sherman has presented a play at East High School. Several performances are scheduled on a weekend as the culmination of several months of preparation. Recently, we have made this a community event that has involved performers and stage crew staff from our area elementary schools, older adults from the Northeast Senior Coalition and students, staff and parents of Sherman.
These activities are all considered part of our school's service learning plan, where you can use your skills and the curriculum to address concerns and issues important to students.
Remember, you're "At Home At Sherman Middle School!"
