Big 8 Conference Procedures for Responding to Unsportsmanlike Conduct

The Big 8 High School Conference requests contest officials to strictly penalize sportsmanship violations immediately when witnessed. Specific attention should be directed to physical or verbal taunting or racial harassment. In addition, officials are asked to assist in curtailing unwitnessed incidents as follows:

1. Players who receive taunts or harassment will report incident(s) to coach(es).
2. The coach(es) will report the incident to a contest official.
3. The contest official will report the incident to the opposing coach.
4. Thereafter, the official will be especially alert for taunting and harassment incidents and penalize them rigorously.
5. The coach who receives the allegation will discuss the incident with player(s) or the entire squad immediately.
