MMSD has a recycling program. We recycle mixed office paper, cardboard, aluminum, scrap metals, fluorescent lamps, and computers. Unfortunately, some of these items actually cost us money to recycle.
We rely on each individual school to recycle aluminum cans. Usually the money goes to the booster club or student organization. If no student group actively recycles aluminum, the custodians cash in the cans and use the proceeds at the school.
Revenues from recycled materials over the last 12 months:
Fluorescent lamps and computers we must pay to have hauled to a recycling facility. It is illegal to dispose of these items in the normal trash.
We collect scrap metals out here at our maintenance facility, 4711 Pflaum Road. Things like copper tubing or cast iron are hauled to a scrap yard. The minimal funds from this are used to buy new tools for our shop employees.
