Mary Gulbrandsen, Director of Student Services, introduced Jeannette DeLoya (Social Work Program Support) and Joseph Hill (Coordinator for Expulsion/Truancy) who gave the presentation. She noted the MMSD definition of an absence is stricter than the DPI's definition, so data found on the DPI website will be different from that reported by the district.
FOLLOW-UP: Request for a copy of attendance analysis presentation by Tim Potter. Request for data from Memorial regarding the value of smaller learning communities/impact on truancy and attendance. Check out concerns about "wrongly served" detentions and "Refused to Admit List" at West.
Mary noted there will be a report on alternative programs scheduled for January that includes information about programs that reach out to Latino students who are not attending school. Also, a task force is reviewing the discipline plan at all levels and the whole approach to changing student behaviors.
