1.         2006-07 Layoffs of MMSD Employees in the Madison Teachers, Inc. (MTI) Teacher Collective Bargaining Unit

Bob Nadler distributed a confidential memorandum listing the areas of certification and corresponding full-time equivalencies (FTEs) reflecting the layoffs required within the teacher unit (a copy is attached to the original of these minutes).  He noted that the list comprises 16 staff members.  The Superintendent explained that it is always difficult but the contract language is applied to this so that the people involved are, in fact, the people who would be required to be laid off.  The social work layoff is the result of a group of competitive grants running out and was not part of the budget.  Many are historically recalled over the summer.

Discussion:  Why some are listed as hours and some as FTEs; they were provided with a conversion into FTEs.  Teacher layoffs were according to seniority.  Clarified that it was 16 people but 10.29 FTEs.

It was moved by Carol Carstensen and seconded by Arlene Silveira to give the administration the authority to move ahead with layoff notices as descried in the memorandum dated 6/2/06.  Motion unanimously carried.

FOLLOW UPBefore the beginning of next year, provide a list of who was added back.

2.         Adjournment

It was moved by Ruth Robarts and seconded by Carol Carstensen to adjourn the meeting at 11:44 p.m.  Motion unanimously carried.
