Minutes for Special Meeting - Open Session

"Times New Roman"'>The Special Meeting of the Board of Education was called to order by President Arlene Silveira at 12:03 p.m.

MEMBERS PRESENT:        Carol Carstensen, Maya Cole, Beth Moss, Arlene Silveira

MEMBERS ABSENT:          Lawrie Kobza, Lucy Mathiak, Johnny Winston, Jr.

STAFF PRESENT:             Amy Christianson, Steve Hartley, Art Rainwater, June Wilson, Barbara Lehman-Recording Secretary

OPEN SESSION

1.         Approval of Minutes

         It was moved by Carol Carstensen and seconded by Beth Moss to approve the minutes of the Special meetings dated May 23, June 4, June 11 and June 18, 2007 as distributed.  Motion unanimously carried by those present.             

2.         Announcements

         There were no announcements.

3.         Financial Transactions

            a.         It was moved by Carol Carstensen and seconded by Beth Moss to purchase an additional ten seats of ElluminateLive! Webconferencing in the amount of $18,780 with funding from the 2006-07 Department of Public Instruction (DPI) Title IID Competitive Education Technology Grant.  Motion unanimously carried by those present. 

            b.         It was moved by Carol Carstensen and seconded by Beth Moss to approve entering into a contract with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Dane County (hereinafter "Big Brothers"), whereby the District will pay Big Brothers the amount of $16,000 to provide management of and support for mentors for up to 75 Latino students grades 4 through 8 between June 1, 2007 and May 31, 2008.  The $16,000 will be paid from funds received from the Leopold Latino Academic Mentoring Alliance (LLAMA) mentoring grant.  Bids were not requested under Policy 6244 for this contract as Big Brothers is specifically named as a partner/collaborative party and service provider in the grant documents and has provided similar services for this grant during the past two years.  Motion unanimously carried by those present.
