BOARD OF EDUCATION
Minutes for Special Meeting - Open Session

Special Meeting of the Board of Education was called to order by President Arlene Silveira at 7:02 p.m.

 

MEMBERS PRESENT:                             Carol Carstensen, Lawrie Kobza, Lucy Mathiak, Beth Moss, Arlene Silveira,

MEMBERS ABSENT:                               Maya Cole, Johnny Winston, Jr.

STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE PRESENT:   Joe Carlsmith

STAFF PRESENT:                                  Art Rainwater, Ken Syke, Barbara Lehman-Recording Secretary

1.         Student Recognition Ceremony

    The Board of Education and Superintendent recognized the National Merit Scholarship Semi-Finalists, National Achievement Scholarship Semi-Finalists, and the National Hispanic Program Scholars from all four MMSD high schools.  The Superintendent introduced the members of the Board and talked about the competition involved in this program.  Bruce Dahmen, principal of Memorial High School, provided an overview of the National Merit qualifying process and the finalist programs and the overall performance of district students on the ACT test.  One student from each of the four high schools was given the opportunity to talk about one particular person who has made a difference in their lives. 

            Each of the students were introduced (a copy of the program is attached to the original of these minutes). 

                 

2.         Adjournment

            It was moved by Carol Carstensen and seconded by Lawrie Kobza adjourn the meeting at 7:30 p.m.   Motion unanimously carried by those present.
