SNOW AND ICE SAFETY TIPS FOR STUDENTS

DO leave some extra time in the morning to get to your bus stop on time.

DO wear bright clothing so you can be seen in the early morning or late afternoon when the sky is gray.

DO dress properly. Warm clothes, hats, mittens and boots may help keep you from getting sick.

DON'T play in the street while waiting for the school bus. Drivers may not be able to see you and cars cannot stop quickly on the ice.

DON'T throw snowballs at the bus or anyone else.

DON'T climb on the snowbanks, you could slide under the wheel of a school bus.

DON'T slide on ice patches in driveways or the street.

DON'T stoop down to pick up papers. Make sure you can be seen by the bus driver.

DON'T push or shove around the bus stop. Someone could slide or fall under the wheels.

DO stand far back from where the bus stops. Remember, buses need extra room to stop when there is snow or ice on the roads.

DO walk directly away from the bus. Don't linger or play at the bus stop.

DO keep a safe distance from the bus. A safe distance means not being able to touch the bus.
