Douglas Named Assistant Superintendent for Secondary Schools

Valencia Douglas has been selected as the new assistant superintendent for secondary schools, pending the approval of the Board of Education at its July 31 meeting. She will oversee both middle and high schools.

Douglas comes to Madison from New Orleans, where she was a special assistant to the superintendent for New Orleans Public Schools, a consultant to the education foundation, and a principal for six years. She is currently the director of the charter school at St. Marks Community Center in New Orleans.

From 1995 to 1997, Douglas worked in education administration for Harvard University, where she is on track for a Doctorate in Education next year. Douglas holds a master's degree in education administration from Harvard, a master's degree in elementary and special education and a bachelor's degree in early childhood education both from Syracuse University.

Douglas replaces Interim Assistant Superintendent Glenn Borland, who filled this position in December when Alex Boyd departed to become the superintendent of a school district in Harvey, Illinois.
