Fingerprint Cards for All Madison Elementary and Middle School Students

Parents and guardians of all Madison elementary and middle school students will be able to fingerprint their children using a kit made available by the University of Wisconsin football program and the Madison School District.

The kits are inkless and allow parents and guardians to fingerprint their children and keep the fingerprint record at home in case it is ever needed for identification.

"This identification program is valuable because, unlike kids' appearances, fingerprints never change," said Ted Balistreri, Coordinator of Security. "The fingerprint card is kept right at home and it can be used to positively identify a child no matter what their age."

The American Football Coaches Association, through Wisconsin Coach Barry Alvarez, is donating 17,500 kits, enough so that there is one for every Madison student in kindergarten through eighth grade. Madison schools will receive the kits this week, and either send them home with students or make them available to parents and guardians at the school.

"The fingerprint card could be a very valuable record to have, so we encourage parents and guardians to fingerprint their children and keep the record at home," said Superintendent Art Rainwater. "We are grateful to Barry Alvarez and Wisconsin football for showing concern for the safety of our children by providing these identification cards."
