Loren Rathert has been named principal at Madison West High School, pending the approval of the Board of Education at its June 18 meeting.
Rathert will begin his duties on July 1, and succeeds Elizabeth Burmaster, who was elected in April as State Superintendent of Public Instruction.
Rathert has 22 years of educational experience, including the last four years as high school principal in the Mount Horeb Area School District. Rathert worked in the Middleton-Cross Plains Area School District for 14 years as a high school social studies teacher and as the Restructuring Coordinator. From 1995 to 1997 he served as the Director of Curriculum and associate principal in the New Holstein School District.
Rathert graduated from McFarland High School, has a bachelor's degree from UW-Madison, a master's degree in Educational Administration from UW-Madison, and is presently working on a doctorate in Educational Administration there.
West is a comprehensive four year high school with an enrollment of 2,093. Burmaster has been principal at West for the past nine years.
