Any adult concerned about a preschool child's development can refer the child to Child Find Preschool Screening, a free service of the Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD) that is available to children between the ages of 3 and 5 who live within the District.
Anyone, including parents, grandparents, foster parents, daycare providers, preschool teachers, doctors, nurses or school staff can refer a child to Child Find Preschool Screening. The preschool screening team is available to screen children and start the process to determine if a child may have a disability or delays in development.

The screening usually occurs in the child's home and takes up to 45 minutes. At the end of the screening, parents and staff discuss findings and decide whether to refer for an evaluation to determine if the child has a disability. If an evaluation is needed, Child Find Preschool Screening assigns an MMSD program team to conduct it. The parents and the District jointly make a decision about the child's eligibility for programs based on the child's individual needs.
Identified impairments include: autism, cognitive disability, hearing impairment, emotional disturbances, learning disability, orthopedic impairment, other health impairment, speech or language impairment, traumatic brain injury, vision impairment, and significant developmental delay.

For children 3 to 5 years of age who live outside the MMSD, contact the school district in which they live.
