Shabazz Students Fix, Donate Computers to Needy Families

Students from Malcolm Shabazz City High School, 1601 N. Sherman Ave., will provide computers and printers that they have repaired to 10 needy families on Thursday, December 7 from 11 - 11:30 a.m. The computer-refurbishing project is part of the school's "service learning" mission, for which Shabazz has received national recognition.

The families will come to Shabazz to interact with the students and then will move to the school's writing lab, where the students will tutor the individuals on how to use the computers, before they are taken home by the families. The computers have word processing, drawing/painting, spreadsheet, data base and game capabilities. The families are involved in the Migrant Education Program in Madison.

The Equity in Computer Access Program class will continue refurbishing computers until mid-January and welcomes donations of any Macintosh computer with hard drive, any personal computer of Pentium grade, working monitors, printers, and --especially -- printer cables and mice. Anyone in need of a computer can fill out a request form in the school office.
