Thomas named Madison Schools Recruiter

Eddie Thomas has been named as a recruitment specialist by the Madison Metropolitan School District. This is a new position in this year's budget created primarily to address a shortage of minority teachers.

Thomas is a 16-year veteran of human resources functions in State of Wisconsin agencies, working specifically in Equal Opportunity, and Research. Most recently Thomas had been coordinator of recruitment for UW Extension.

He will now be responsible for implementing employee recruitment activities with special emphasis on minorities and high-need areas. Thomas will start on December 11.

A dearth of minority teachers and educators has been a local, state and national issue for many years. Increasing the number of minority teachers to reflect student populations is one strategy to address minority student achievement.
