FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
THURSDAY, MAY 24, 2001
The Madison School District will conduct the first-ever Middle School All-City Track and Field Championships on Wednesday, May 30, 2001. Qualifiers from an east side and west side qualification meet will participate in heats and final running events for boys and girls between 11 A.M. and 2:15 P.M. at Mansfield Stadium. Field events will begin at noon and conclude at approximately 2:15 P.M.
This event is another effort to increase middle school competitive activities for students enrolled in Madison's 11 middle schools. For the past 20 years, separate track meets have been conducted for east and west side middle schools. For 2001, those meets served as qualifying meets for the May 30th all-city finals meet.
Eight finalists from the east and west side qualifying meets will participate in preliminary heats. The nine top performers in preliminary heats of the 100 meter dash, 70 meter low hurdles and 200 meter dash will compete for final places. Timed finals will be conducted in the 1600 meter run, 400 meter run and 800 meter run. The top four boys and girls 400-meter relay teams from the east and west side qualification meets will also compete in a finals event.
