Crestwood Plans Grand Centennial Celebration

Activities include educational, recreational opportunities

Students, parents, alumni and members of the community will celebrate the centennial of Crestwood/Highlands-Mendota Beach Elementary school this Friday and Saturday with a variety of activities and events at the school, located at 5930 Old Sauk Road.

On Friday, September 28 several of the school's alumni and former staff members will be on hand for current students to interview, beginning at 11:30 a.m. Other events during the day include:

12:30 - 2:30 p.m. - Power Point presentation featuring historical photos of the schools

1 - 2:30p.m. - Unveiling of scale model of the original 1913 school building by master model builder, Robert Dunham, who will describe the model's construction and features

3 p.m. - Unveiling of centennial banner in the front of the school

6:00 p.m. - Potluck dinner

6:45 p.m. - Program includes comments from State Sen. Fred Risser, 1941 graduate and Pat Durkin Klein, 1939 graduate

7:15 p.m. - Parade of the Decades. Led by student-made banners representing each decade, alumni, former staff and students will parade through and around the school.

The power point historical presentation will run all evening in the school's library.

Saturday, September 29

9 - 11 a.m. - School tours, power point presentation, Sen. Fred Risser, Rep. Spencer Black, Crestwood neighborhood resident and whose son attended the school, sharing of photos for alumni, parents, students and community members.
