A team of students at Hamilton Middle School took fourth place and the Hamilton coach was part of a team that earned first place at the Future Problem Solving International competition over the weekend in Storrs, Connecticut.
The 7th grade student team of Mark Kelly, Jacinth Sohi, Dean Weesner and Eliza Zimmerer finished in 4th place of the middle division among 76 top teams entered. They competed against 7th, 8th and 9th grade students in grappling with issues surrounding the operation of a unique corporate entity of 2056. This same Hamilton team won the state competition earlier this year.
Their teacher and coach, Lynn Buckmaster, competed and came out on top with four other coaches from different states in the adult event dealing with the same future issues.
The Future Problem Solving competition is a year-long international program that requires students to examine problems related to global issues. This year students studied alternative energy, organ donation, educational options, and environmental law.
The essence of Future Problem Solving is students learning how to think creatively about the future. To learn more about this program, go to: http://www.fpsp.org
