NEWS RELEASE
MONDAY, JUNE 4, 2002
Due to the likelihood of rain and the muddy turf, the groundbreaking for the Aldo Leopold Elementary School addition scheduled for today at 2:00 p.m. has been cancelled.
The event will not be re-scheduled because construction will begin before school commences on August 26. However, according to Principal Mary Hyde, some kind of event marking the addition's construction will be scheduled at a later date.
The $2.05 million addition consists of eight new classrooms, a new library, a new computer lab, an elevator and restrooms. The project also includes remodeling of some existing rooms, expansion of the kindergarten play area and other site work. The addition will increase the interior size of the school by 16,500 sq. feet, a 25% increase.
Construction should be completed in early spring of 2003 so that next year's 3rd grade students will be able to complete the school year in Leopold.
In addition to the students, Board of Education members and school administrators, also scheduled to be part of the groundbreaking are parents and staff members because they worked closely with the district and the architects on the overall site design and on traffic solutions. The work will also create a bus drop-off loop from Post Road, creating additional space for parent drop-off.
Bray Associates is the architectural firm.
