The groundbreaking for Lussier Stadium, the new $1.1 million Eastside athletic facility for East and La Follette High Schools, took place today. Construction of the stadium that will host varsity football, soccer and track events will be complete by the start of the 2002-03 school year.
A lead gift of $750,000 by John H. "Jack" Lussier has made possible construction of the stadium, located behind La Follette High School.
Additional donors are being sought to help fund and expand on the stadium project. Individuals interested in donating should direct their inquiries to John Olson, former Madison Metropolitan School District assistant superintendent and coordinator for the stadium funding drive, at 663-5212.
Lussier Stadium will seat up to 5,000 persons and have concessions and restroom building, a scoreboard, press box and lighting. In addition to being the site football, girls and boys soccer, and girls and boys track and field, the facility will be able to accommodate large track and field meets such as invitationals, conference and WIAA events.
