FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WEDNESDAY, MAY 8, 2002
This week the Madison School District is hosting over 150 teachers and educators from the Minority Student Achievement Network, a group of 14 outstanding school districts from around the country working to improve the academic achievement of minority students.
Madison is part of the Network -- along with districts such as Ann Arbor MI, Cambridge MA, Chapel Hill NC and White Plains NY -- which has been aiming since 1999 "to discover, develop and implement the means to insure high academic achievement of minority students." This is the first time Madison has hosted its colleagues in the Network.
"Teachers Conference 2002," which runs from Thursday evening through Saturday at noon, will focus on the strategies used by classroom teachers as presented by classroom teachers ("teacher to teacher"). In addition to breakout sessions on district-level initiatives, the conference also features keynotes about research findings in this field.
There are two times when key individuals would be most available for interviews:
Thursday, May 9, 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. at Monona Terrace, Ballrooms C & D
