The dedication of the five large granite quarry stones -- with its messages about the impact of violence -- will be at 8:15 a.m. on the exterior of the Ash Street side of West High School, 30 Ash Street. Later that morning, artist Brad McCallum will explain the circular sculpture and the reason for its creation to many West students.

What's special about this dedication is that it is at the school of longtime West HS art teacher Don Hunt, the leading advocate for this unique and special project. Hunt is retiring at the end of the school year.
Path of Voices is a public work of art designed to build community awareness of the roots of violence. This is the second of five planned installations on high school sites (East High School, October, 2001).
These Path of Voices sculptures, cut in an arc to form a circle, are places where the community can come to pause, reflect and listen to the stories of Madison-area residents. Two tall granite pylons with built-in audio speakers amplify the oral histories and testimonials recorded by Madison high school students. The project needs $180,000 for completion, and has been funded by grants, in-kind support and private donations.
This event marks the start of West High School's Fine Arts Week, April 29 through May 3.
