Madison La Follette High School is the sole recipient of the School Award from the Wisconsin Alliance for Arts Education and the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. The school was given the award at a recent statewide conference of arts educators.
La Follette requires the study of Fine Arts as a requirement for graduation. This means that students must take a course in one of the Fine Arts offerings -- music, art, creative writing or social dance.
The commendation from the Alliance notes that La Follette High School "has distinguished itself from many Wisconsin schools. In summary, the arts programs (there) have grown in their quality, enrollment and offerings, and the strength of the other academics has continued to rise."
Just two weeks ago La Follette Principal Michael Meissen was named Wisconsin High School Principal of the Year. This recognition comes from the Association of Wisconsin School Administrators and the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.
Meissen is a graduate of La Follette, and has been the principal there since 1992.
