McPike Named Interim Principal at East

Longtime Madison East High School Principal Milt McPike has been named the interim principal at the school until a permanent successor is able to take the position. McPike, who was the East principal for 23 years until his retirement in June, will start his interim duties August 20.

After the first round of interviews in June for the East High principalship, the Madison School District opted to seek additional applicants. The District worked with Hazard, Young, Attea and Associates, an education search firm, to attract a wider range of candidates.

The second round of interviews is scheduled for this week.

"We are very happy that Milt has agreed to return to East High School for this interim period to ensure a smooth opening of school," said Superintendent Art Rainwater.

It's not known when a new principal could be named or when that person could begin duties.
