Catherine Tillman Named Principal at Madison East

Catherine Tillman has been named principal at Madison East High School, pending the approval of the Board of Education at its September 9 meeting.

Tillman will begin her duties fulltime on September 30. In the meantime, Milt Mc Pike, who retired in June after 23 years as the East principal, will continue as the interim principal, a position he began on August 20. Mc Pike will also assist Tillman in her transition to the school.

Tillman has 21 years of high school instructional and administrative experience, including the last four years as Associate Principal at Hamilton High School in Sussex, WI, a Milwaukee suburb. Tillman worked for nine years as a program coordinator and teacher at Rufus King High School in Milwaukee. From 1981-89 she was a teacher at Marquette University High School in Milwaukee.

Tillman has masters' degrees in Educational Leadership and in Instruction from Cardinal Stritch University in Milwaukee. Her teacher certification is through UW-Milwaukee and she has a bachelor's degree in English/Speech from UW-Whitewater. Catherine has published various articles about inclusive alternative education, portfolio assessment and leadership in high schools.

East is a comprehensive four year high school with an enrollment of 2,040.
