Julie Frentz Named Principal at Van Hise; Pamela Emmerich to be Assistant Principal at Chávez

Julie Frentz, the current principal of Emerson Elementary School, has been named the new principal at Van Hise Elementary effective this summer. Pamela Emmerich, the current principal at Lindbergh Elementary, is resigning that position to become the assistant principal at Chávez Elementary School beginning this summer.

Frentz has provided leadership at Emerson, 2421 E. Johnson St., for the past eight years. Previous to that, she worked as a staff developer in Madison schools. The opening at Van Hise, 4747 Waukesha Street, will come about when the current principal, Quynh Nguyen, takes an elementary principal's position in Naperville, Illinois this summer.

Because the enrollment at Chávez, 3502 Maple Grove Dr., was greater than 500 students (537) in the September 2003 count, an allocation for an assistant principal has been assigned. Emmerich has been principal at Lindbergh, 4500 Kennedy Rd., for four years.

Pam came through the MMSD Grow Our Own Principal program after teaching for several years in Madison and California. She requested the move to Chávez to be closer to home and her young daughter and husband. Emmerich will be working with Chávez Principal Howard Fried.

The search processes for new principals at Emerson and Lindbergh begin immediately, and all three departing principals will be working to ensure smooth transitions for their successor.
