Three new principals were named for the 2003-04 school year, Superintendent Art Rainwater announced today. Replacing two elementary and one middle school principal, finalizes principal positions for the upcoming school year. Final approval of the appointments is pending action by the Board of Education at its September 8 meeting.
Steve Hoffman, a former assistant principal at Madison East High School, will serve as interim principal for this year at Black Hawk Middle School, located on the north side. He received both his BS degree in General Engineering from the University of Illinois in 1984 and a Masters in Music Education in 1991. He received a certificate in Educational Administration from UW-Madison in 2000. From 1990-98 he was a music instructor at Glenbard East High School in Lombard, IL and at Central High School in Champaign, IL. Hoffman was at East from 1998 through 2002. Hoffman replaces David Krause, who becomes the 9th grade principal at East High School.
Marianne Moss is the new principal at Randall Elementary, located near the University. Moss, a 33-year veteran in the education arena, received a BA degree in Speech/Language in 1970 from Southern Methodist University. She received a Masters in Educational Administration from Edgewood College in 1991 and completed certification as a director of curriculum/instruction and director of student services in 1995. She is a former principal and speech/language therapist for the Sauk Prairie schools. Since 1999, Moss has worked as a coordinator in the district's equity, advocacy and diversity office working with parents and students. Moss replaces Peg Hamele, who retired.
Kristi Kloos was named the new principal at Lapham Elementary, located on the near eastside. Kloos received her BS in Education from Edgewood College in January 1996 and Masters in Educational Leadership from Cardinal Stritch College in 2001. She began working for the district as a substitute teacher in January 1996 and taught 4th grade at Glendale Elementary from 1996-2001. During the 2001-02 school year she was one of the participants in the district's Grow Our Own Principals program, working at Orchard Ridge Elementary and Hamilton Middle School. Last year she was a staff development specialist working with the district's elementary school principals on school improvement plans. She replaces Barbara Thompson, who resigned to become the district administrator in New Glarus.
