New Principals Named at West, Wright, Emerson & Lindbergh

Wright's Holmes Moves to West HS

Wright Middle School Principal Ed Holmes has been named the new principal at West High School, and current Wright Learning Coordinator Nancy Evans will be the interim principal at Wright for the 2004-05 school year. In addition, the new principal at Emerson Elementary School will be Daniel Shumway of West Salem, and Pamela Wilson of Wisconsin Heights will be the new principal at Lindbergh Elementary.

All four appointments are pending the approval of the Board of Education at its July 12 meeting, and will go into effect during the summer break.

Ed Holmes, a veteran of 14 years in the Madison School District, will be replacing Loren Rathert, West's principal for the last 3 years. Rathert is giving up the principal position to become the district coordinator for Social Studies and Foreign Language.

During Holmes' six years at Wright (1717 Fish Hatchery Rd.), the school received over $1 million in grants and Holmes received the prestigious Milken Family Foundation educator award. Prior to being at Wright, Ed was an assistant principal at the school he's now going to - West - and was also the minority service coordinator at Memorial HS. He holds a certificate of advanced study in educational administration from National Louis University and has a Master's degree in social work from UW-Madison.

Nancy Evans came to Wright MS in 1999 as a classroom teacher and has been the school's learning coordinator for the past three years. From 1976 to 1999, she was an elementary level classroom teacher at Muir, Leopold, Lincoln and Randall Schools in Madison. Evans holds a Master's degree in educational leadership from Cardinal Stritch University.

At Emerson (2421 E. Johnson St.), Daniel Shumway replaces Julie Frentz who is taking over at Van Hise Elementary. Shumway holds a Master's degree in school administration from Marian College in Fond du Lac and an education administration degree from UW-Eau Claire. Shumway has been in the West Salem School District as an assistant elementary principal for the past four years, and has experience in other districts as an associate principal and a school psychologist/special education coordinator.

Pamela Wilson takes over at Lindbergh (4500 Kennedy Rd.) from Pam Emmerich, who is moving to Chavez Elementary as an assistant principal. Wilson has been an elementary principal in the Wisconsin Heights School District for the last six years. She also has 16 years of school experience as a speech/language specialist. Wilson has a degree in education administration from UW-Madison, where she also received Bachelor's and Master's degrees in communicative disorders.
