Shabazz City High School First to Receive Certification

Malcolm Shabazz City High School is the first school in the nation to receive full certification from the National At-Risk Education Network (NAREN.) At a school assembly yesterday, the certification document was presented to Principal Sally Schultz and Shabazz staff by Dr. Anthony Dallmann-Jones, NAREN's director.

NAREN has established nine standards which provide guidance in effective design and implementation of quality programs for alternative education and at-risk students. Shabazz staff and students then undertook the effort to document the school's high quality in all nine standards.

"Shabazz City High School staff and students are thrilled to earn NAREN certification, especially since we are the first school in the United States to do so," said Schultz. "This is a testament to the outstanding staff and students here."

Malcolm Shabazz City High School is a Madison Metropolitan School District high school alternative open to all high school students in the district. The school offers a full high school program, leading to a MMSD diploma.

The National At-Risk Education Network (NAREN) is a private, non-sectarian, non-profit educational agency dedicated to both promoting the success of at-risk youth in schools, and supporting the educators who work on their behalf.
