Madison School Registration Days Announced

Schedule Features New Elementary Registration Day

Registration for Madison School District students for the 2004-05 year will begin on Wednesday, August 18. The registration schedule is being announced early because of the change to a Wednesday starting date and a new period for elementary student registration.

The first day of school will be Wednesday, September 1 and, similar to previous years, registration will begin two weeks prior to that date. All registrations will take place at the child's school, and both returning and new students should register.

Parents and guardians of elementary students are being asked to register their children on the date that will be suggested by the child's school, either August 18, 19, 20 or 23. The schools will announce in the spring their specific date. At the elementary schools, registration involves completing all necessary forms, picking up school and classroom information, and scheduling an initial conference with the teacher.

"We are asking parents to register their elementary students on the designated day so that they also can collect all the information at one time, thus helping to get the year off to a good start," said Jane Belmore, Assistant Superintendent for Elementary Schools.

Registration for middle school students will be from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and according to this schedule:

8th grade students - Mon., August 23
7th grade students - Tue., August 24
6th grade students - Wed., August 25

Registration for high school students will follow this schedule:

New students - Wed., August 18
9th grade students - Thu., August 19
12th grade students - Fri., August 20
11th grade students - Mon., August 23
10th grade students - Tue., August 24
Shabazz High School - Thu., Aug. 26; new students - Sep. 1

High school times vary; they can be found at http://www.mmsd.org/register.htm. This page will also have the elementary schools' dates when they are announced.

Registration for middle and high school students involves picking up course schedules and other information, having ID pictures taken, paying fees and signing up for activities and services.
