New team locker rooms at Lussier Stadium will be dedicated and used for the first time when the two high school football teams that call Lussier Stadium home, East and La Follette, square off in the season opener on Friday evening, August 29.
Construction of the new team rooms, at a total cost of $442,000, was made possible by a lead donation by John H. "Jack" Lussier, for whom Lussier Stadium is named. Because of Lussier's $350,000 gift, two rooms that have lockers, showers and training facilities for both home and visiting teams were able to be built on the west side of the La Follette field house, a few strides east of the stadium.
Dedication of the new Lussier Stadium team rooms will be Friday, August 29 at 7:00 p.m. The short program will precede the La Follette vs. East game that starts at 7:30 p.m.
"Once again, Jack Lussier has stepped forward and made a gift to the Madison community," said Superintendent Art Rainwater. "These locker rooms will benefit all athletes who compete at Lussier Stadium and make it one of the best prep athletic facilities in the state."
Lussier's $750,000 lead gift brought about the construction and opening of the $1 million Lussier Stadium in August of last year.
The team rooms will provide locker and shower facilities for other athletic events like prep soccer and track, as well as community events like Badger State Games and youth tournaments.
Teams had previously used an old locker room in Sennett Middle School, across the parking lot, and another one in La Follette which was often not available due to year-around use by high school athletics.
