Nancy Evans, currently Wright Middle School's interim principal, and John Burmaster, currently principal at Muir Elementary and tabbed for Jefferson Middle School, have been selected as middle school principals for recommendation to the Board of Education for approval at its Monday, May 2 meeting.
Evans, who is concluding a one-year stint as interim principal at Wright MS, will become Wright's permanent principal. She came to Wright MS in 1999 as a classroom teacher and was the school's learning coordinator for three years. From 1976 to 1999, she was an elementary level classroom teacher at Muir, Leopold, Lincoln and Randall Schools in Madison. Evans holds a master's degree in educational leadership from Cardinal Stritch University.
Burmaster will move from the elementary ranks to the principal position at Jefferson. He replaces Paul Bishop, who is retiring. Burmaster has been with the district since 1991, teaching at Emerson Elementary for two years and two years at Jefferson. He served four years as an assistant principal at Memorial High School and since 1999 he has been the principal at Muir. Burmaster holds a bachelor's degree in elementary education and a master's degree in educational administration, both from Edgewood College.
Both appointments, if accepted by the BOE, will begin July 1, 2005.
