News about the MMSD
The Madison School District is one of four state-wide winners of the Wisconsin Partners for Clean Air Recognition Awards given last week by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and the Wisconsin Partners for Clean Air. The awards recognize a select number of organizations that took voluntary actions to improve air quality in the previous year (2004). According to the awarding organizations, MMSD was given the award for:
"their participation in state and national environmental programs to educate students and staff;
facility improvements with many energy retrofits;
purchasing of energy efficient and less toxic materials;
use of alternative energy;
participation on the Dane County Clean Air Coalition."
"We're delighted that our exceptional efforts to improve air quality have been recognized with this state award," said Superintendent Art Rainwater. "Congratulations to our Building Services department and the many other staff members who have made exemplary efforts to protect our air and to educate students and staff about the importance of air quality."
The Wisconsin Partners for Clean Air is a coalition of over 300 businesses, organizations, schools, businesses, and government agencies that take voluntary actions for cleaner air. The news release for these awards can be found at: http://www.dnr.wi.gov/org/caer/ce/news/rbnews/2005/051905ser1.htm
