Valencia Douglas Takes Superintendent Position in New York State

Assistant Superintendent to Lead Schools in Nyack, NY

Valencia Douglas, the Madison School District's Assistant Superintendent for Secondary Schools, has been named the new superintendent for the Nyack Union Free School District in Nyack, New York. Douglas' appointment is effective in July and she will continue in her position in Madison until June 30.

Douglas has been with Madison schools and in her current position since August of 2000.

"I'm honored and proud to have been part of the Madison School District family and the work we've done to serve children," said Douglas. "While I'm looking forward to this new opportunity as a superintendent, I will miss the many colleagues and community members I've worked with here."

Nyack Union Free is a district of 3,200 students in grades K through 12, and is located 20 miles north of New York City.

The process to replace Douglas as the leader for all MMSD middle and high schools will begin immediately, according to Superintendent Art Rainwater.

"Valencia has been a superb leader of our secondary schools and we will miss her, but we understand her desire to be a superintendent." said Rainwater. "We congratulate the Nyack district on gaining an outstanding administrator."
