Hamilton Middle School Wins; Jefferson Takes Second

Two Madison middle schools finished first and second in the team competition in the statewide MathCounts contest held Saturday on the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus.

The team from Hamilton Middle School won the competition and the Jefferson Middle School team finished second. About 120 seventh- and eighth-grade students from 40 Wisconsin schools participated in the meet, which is sponsored by the Wisconsin Society of Professional Engineers.

Jefferson eighth grader Po-Ru Loh and Hamilton eighth grader Yian Zhang were among the top four individual competitors in the statewide contest and will represent Wisconsin at the national MathCounts competition in Washington, D.C. in May.
