Adam Silver has been named principal for Allis Elementary and Jerald Tollefson will be the new principal at Marquette Elementary beginning this fall, following approval by the Madison Board of Education at Monday night's board meeting.
For the past five years, Silver has been the education director for the Bronx West Early Learning Center in New York City, a pre-kindergarten, kindergarten and early elementary school. Silver studied for three years in Asia as part of the Thomas J. Watson Fellowship and was an English instructor in China from 1986-87. He has taught elementary education, early childhood, English as a second language and high school math.
Silver received his bachelor's degree in Art History from Swarthmore College in 1984, his master's degree in special education from Hunter College in 1992 and in 1994 he received advanced certification in educational administration and supervision from Hunter College.
Tollefson is a 27-year veteran educator who has been an elementary school principal for 16 years. He was principal in the Oswego, Illinois school district from 1983-91; Middleton-Cross Plains district from 1991-95; and Cambridge since 1995. He also taught in the Oswego district from 1977-91 and began his career as a teacher in the Plainfield, IL school district from 1972-77.
Tollefson received his bachelor's degree in elementary education from North Central College in Napperville, IL in 1972; his master's degree in educational administration from Northern Illinois University in 1978; and an educational specialist degree from NIU in 1985.
