Ted Balistreri, a 30-year veteran with the Madison Police Department, has been selected to head the school district's security operations beginning in January 2000, Superintendent Art Rainwater announced Wednesday.
Balistreri currently serves as the assistant chief of operations for MPD. He plans to retire in January 2000 and become the coordinator of School Security Services for Madison's schools. Following his retirement, Balistreri's name will be forward to the Board of Education for final approval.
John Olson will continue as coordinator for security during the first semester for the 1999-00 school year. During that time, Balistreri will serve as a consultant filling in during Olson's scheduled vacation times, completing cross-training with Olson and working with the district to enhance the solid partnership with the Madison Police Department in addressing critical security and safety issues facing the Madison school community. Olson has been the district's security coordinator since 1993.
