FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 6, 1998
The State Historical Society of Wisconsin's traveling museum exhibit, "Celebrating Wisconsin: Work Then and Now" will be on display in the O'Keeffe Middle School Library and Media Center from November 10-18. The school is located at 510 S Thornton Avenue.
The exhibit will be on display while the school's eighth grade students are researching and creating colonial era projects. The photo exhibit is part of the sesquicentennial "re-photography" series, reflecting the rich diversity of Wisconsin's people and their economic life. The photos from the Historical Society's archives were selected and contemporary photographers were sent to the same or similar sites to preserve today's related images.
The photos cover urban and rural activities and examine agricultural, industrial and service sector jobs. Visitors will be able to see and compare the major technological changes over time. The exhibit can be viewed during the school's normal hours of 8-4 p.m. and members of the community are cordially invited.
The project was developed by the state Historical Society and funded by the Wisconsin Sesquicentennial Commission, individual and corporate contributions, the State of Wisconsin, a grant from the Dane County Cultural Affairs Commission and additional support from the Madison Community Foundation.
