Thoreau Elementary School music teacher Lona George has been selected to receive the Rockwell Award from the University of Wisconsin-Madison for her contributions to teaching and teacher training, the district announced today.
The award, formally known as the Roland and Ruth Rockwell Cooperating Teacher Award, recognizes teachers who work cooperatively with the university to train teachers.
Thoreau reading specialist Cindy Gleason has been selected as a Burmeister Scholar by the UW-Madison School of Education for her work on literacy with the Thoreau staff and student teachers.
