The Madison Metropolitan School District has won an Award of Excellence for its web page in the 1998 Wisconsin School Public Relations Association's (WSPRA) Spectrum Awards contest, the WSPRA announced. Chris Burch, MMSD's Webmaster, will accept the award this Thursday at a luncheon during the WSPRA state convention at the Heidel House Conference Center in Green Lake.
The MMSD's web page (http://www.madison.k12.wi.us) entry received the full 100 points possible in the judging. The district started its web page in April of 1996. Last year a team of district employes redesigned the site to make it more user friendly. The site is now divided into four sections -- district information, information for parents, instructional support and MMSD departments.
There are also several "hot buttons" that will directly take a browser to school home pages, a staff directory, a link to the "At Home in Madison" pages, an opportunity to provide input on the school board's superintendent search and other areas. The district's site has had over 120,000 "visits" since August of 1996.
In August of this year, Schoolnet, a Canada-wide, government-run organization dedicated to excellence in learning through electronic networking, praised MMSD for its site by saying, "We are very impressed by the high quality of your website and the information it contains. We would like your permission to link our site to yours in order to further inform our readers."
