The Madison School District is appointing three new elementary school principals for the 2000-01 school year, pending the approval of the Board of Education on May 15. They are Pam Fait at Lindbergh, Carol Heibel at Glendale, and George Theoharis at Falk.
Fait and Heibel are completing participation in "Grow Our Own Principal," a one-year internship program offered by Madison schools.
Prior to her internship, Fait was a first grade teacher at Elvehjem School for 3 years, and a teacher at Sennett Middle School for two years. In 1998, she earned her masters degree in Educational Administration from UW-Madison. At Lindbergh, Fait replaces Allen Pease, who is retiring after 34 years with the district, including 11 at Lindbergh.
Heibel replaces Glendale's Mary Hyde, who will become the principal at Leopold Elementary. Heibel was an elementary school music teacher in Madison schools for 11 years prior to her principal internship this year. She has 21 years of teaching experience overall, and is a candidate for graduation this month with a masters degree in Educational Administration from Edgewood College.
Theoharis earned his masters degree in Educational Administration from UW-Madison in 1998, and he is currently in the doctoral program for Curriculum and Instruction there. Theoharis has been a kindergarten teacher at Franklin this year, and has been a teacher of talented and gifted elementary and middle school students. He replaces Merle Sweet who is retiring after 35 years with Madison schools.
