FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April 7, 2000
Jane Belmore, current principal at Elvehjem Elementary School, has been named assistant superintendent for Elementary Schools beginning in the 2000-2001 school year. The appointment is pending approval by the Board of Education at its April 10 meeting.
Belmore will replace Shirley Baum, who is retiring after 31 years with the district, including the last 17 years as assistant superintendent.
Belmore will be responsible for the supervision of all twenty-nine Madison elementary schools.
Prior to serving as the Elvehjem principal, Belmore was the principal at Schenk Elementary from 1990 to 1995. She was a special needs teacher at Lowell and Hawthorne Elementary Schools from 1986 to 1990. Belmore has been with the district since 1975, starting as a program support teacher. She was subsequently both a learning coordinator and an area curriculum coordinator.
Belmore has a masters degree in Education, and in May she will receive a Ph.D. in Educational Administration from UW-Madison.
