Mary Hyde, a 26-year education veteran – 18 as a Madison schools administrator – has been named the new principal at Leopold Elementary for the 2000-01 school year. Hyde replaces Donna Saunders, who is retiring at the conclusion of this school year.
Hyde is currently the principal at Glendale Elementary, where she was responsible for providing the leadership for Madison's first SAGE (Student Achievement Guarantee in Educaiton) school in 1995. Leopold will become a SAGE school in K-1 next year. Hyde is also a former principal at Elvehjem Elementary and a curriculum coordinator for Language Arts/Reading and Social Studies.
Hyde will take over the helm at the district's largest elementary school. Leopold's enrollment on the official 3rd Friday in September count was 613. Glendale's enrollment is about 300. No replacement has been named for Hyde's post at Glendale.
