Lindbergh Elementary to Host State WEAC Student Teacher Volunteer Project

On April 2, 2000, more than 100 students from Wisconsin colleges and universities who are preparing for careers in education will participate in the Student Wisconsin Education Association's (Student WEA) second annual Outreach to Teach Project. The Outreach to Teach is a project where Student WEA volunteers give up their time and energy, and utilize their talents to experience what working in the field of education entails and to understand the impact of working under state imposed revenue caps.

This year's project will take place at Charles Lindbergh Elementary School on Kennedy Road, here in Madison, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on April 2, 2000. Volunteers will be repairing playground equipment, painting activities and maps on the playground, landscaping around trees and the school's sign, painting murals in the gymnasium, painting and creating bulletin boards and history timelines in some of the classrooms, and assembling display cases for the hallways.

At 1:00 p.m. the school will be open to the community for an early look at the improvements. UW-Parkside will have a life-size whale set up in the gymnasium for children to walk through. At 2:30 p.m. there will be a closing ceremony where the Student Wisconsin Education Association Outreach to Teach Coordinator (Executive Committee) will present over $1,000.00 in donations to Lindbergh Elementary faculty and staff.

Please join us as we help make one of Wisconsin's schools a Great School. For further information, please consult http://www.student-wea.org or call Allen E. Pease, Principal of Lindbergh School, at 246-5020 or Ken Syke, Coordinator, Public Communications and Business Relations at 267-1681.
