Among the 12 Wisconsin students named Presidential Scholars semifinalists are seven students from Madison schools.
The seven are:
"This is an exceptional honor that merits congratulations to these outstanding students, their families and all their teachers," said Madison schools superintendent Art Rainwater. "That over half of the Wisconsin honorees are Madison students speaks volumes about the great educational experience offered by Madison schools."
A total of 500 semifinalists nationwide were chosen among 2,600 high school seniors identified as candidates. Students are considered based on their performance on the SAT or ACT assessments, and materials submitted by the students including essays, self-assessments, secondary school reports, and transcripts.
From the 500 semifinalists, 121 students will be chosen as Presidential Scholars for their broad academic achievements, leadership and service to their community. The Presidential Scholars program is one of the nation's highest honors for high school students.
