Dear Chávez Families and Staff:
We had a wonderful music program here on Tuesday night. Almost 200
parents and family members attended to watch our students perform. As I
visit classrooms on a daily basis, I see good things happening for our
children. At the same time, I want you to know that I, and others in the
district, continue to address concerns when they arise. I want to remind us
all that every school, every class, is a dynamic social interchange and as
such progress is made at the same time problems occur. Most often our
problems result in progress. So it goes with Chávez School. Here are
some highlights for this week:
- I think all but one of our classrooms now has Chávez computers and
printers installed. Ms. Sharhani's fourth/fifth grade could not be wired
for computers. Her students will be using the portable computers- the
AlphaSmarts- from Chávez.
- Ms. McGaw's 4th grade class at Thoreau has settled into a classroom
space and all is going very well.
- Students in grades 2/3 and 3 have gotten their personal
materials/belongings from Chávez.
- Students in grade 4th will get their personal materials/belongings next
week.
- Speech and Language services have been reviewed once again to ensure
that all of our students are receiving appropriate services.
- We have emptied most of the containers of materials and the contents
have been arranged in the gym. Most of the materials have been taken by
teachers and we will store any remaining materials here at Chávez. We
hope to unload the remaining containers by next week.
- As part of the investigation of mold growth causes, on Feb. 6
additional spots of mold were found in Room 202 . Rooms109B, 115, and 119
have some areas that they are checking further. The spots found are being
remediated using the process that has been followed in the past.
